About the Role
Join a world-leading producer of industrial minerals as a Process Control & Automation Specialist at its
Sylacauga, AL facility—home to one of the world’s largest marble deposits. You’ll own the design, programming,
and reliability of plant electrical/automation systems supporting mining, crushing, and processing operations.
This is a mostly on-site position focused on uptime, safety, and continuous improvement.
Position Details
- Title: Process Control & Automation Specialist
- Location: Sylacauga, AL (Greater Birmingham metro)
- Compensation: $80,000 – $100,000 DOE
- Bonus: None
- Schedule: Primarily on-site; plant-based role
- Travel: No routine travel
- Platforms: Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens (PLC/SCADA)
Key Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and program plant electrical & automation systems (PLC/SCADA, controls, networks)
- Collaborate with engineering and production to enhance process control using CAD-based designs
- Select and apply electrical/control components to reduce manual work and maintenance
- Own the process change request system; document modifications and results
- Plan preventive maintenance, manage spares, and lead troubleshooting to restore operations quickly
- Support capital projects: estimating, approvals, detailed design, cost control, construction, and start-up
- Provide 24/7 escalation support for automation/IT systems to ensure high availability
- Create and maintain standards, drawings, and control narratives for compliance and repeatability
Ideal Background
- Experience as a Process Control/Automation Specialist, Controls Engineer, or similar
- Hands-on PLC programming (Allen-Bradley/Siemens/Schneider) and SCADA/HMI integration
- Strong troubleshooting of control circuits, instrumentation, VFDs, networks, and I/O
- Proficiency with CAD for controls/electrical drawings (schematics, panel layouts, loop diagrams)
- Manufacturing or heavy industry experience (mining, aggregates, cement, chemicals preferred)
- Clear documentation, cross-functional communication, and ownership mindset
