Field Service Technician (Industrial Automation & Robotics)

Role Overview 

We are seeking a Field Service Technician to join an established, industry-leading manufacturer of industrial robotics and automated machinery. In this role, you will act as a primary technical field representative responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and servicing precision Cartesian robots, sprue pickers, and automated material handling equipment at client manufacturing sites.  

This is an ideal opportunity for an electromechanical technician who enjoys hands-on field troubleshooting, variety in their work week, and direct interaction with customer operations teams.  

Primary Responsibilities 

• Installation & Commissioning: Travel to customer manufacturing facilities to install, inspect, align, and perform initial startup of automated machinery and robotic unloading systems based on schematics and engineering blueprints.  

• Diagnostics & Technical Service: Troubleshoot, test, and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems on-site. Perform routine maintenance and calibrate programmable equipment to meet performance tolerances.  

• Client Training & Support: Conduct hands-on training programs for client operators and maintenance technicians on proper machine operation, safety standards, and basic care. Provide occasional phone or email technical assistance during in-office days.  

• Reporting & Quality Control: Utilize specialized diagnostic instruments (multimeters, gauges) to verify operational performance. Complete field service documentation, work logs, and warranty acceptance reports.  

• Safety Adherence: Maintain a strict commitment to safety protocols while working around high-speed machinery and manufacturing equipment.  

Key Qualifications 

• Experience: 3+ years of practical experience in industrial machinery maintenance, electromechanical assembly, or automated equipment field service.  

• Technical Skills: Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and technical wiring diagrams. Proficient with standard hand/power tools and electrical testing meters.  

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Technical degrees or industry-specific electrical/robotics certifications are a plus.  

• Travel & Licensing: Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Willingness to travel approximately 75% across the designated regional territory.  

• Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly (and occasionally higher with assistance), work near moving mechanical parts, and navigate active manufacturing plant environments.  

Schedule & Travel Logistics 

• Overnight Expectations: Travel generally involves 3 to 4 overnight stays per week depending on site location and project scope. Schedule varies with a combination of day trips, overnight stays, and periodic local office days.  

• Weekend Policy: Strong emphasis on scheduling travel so technicians are home on weekends.
