Manufacturers / OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
- These companies manufacture products that they sell or have other companies sell.
- OEM refers to a manufacturer that makes products that is used as a component of an overall system.
Manufacturer Reps / Supply Companies
- These companies rep and sell a Manufacturer’s/OEM’s product to either Contractors or end-clients.
- These companies usually do not provide contractor services; however, more of these companies are now offering these contractor services.
Contractors
- These companies provide services for clientele with more of an emphasis on skilled labor and ability to provided materials rather than manufacturing products.
- These companies are usually authorized to rep, sell, and install specific product-lines. Some companies do not rep product-lines; therefore, they have to buy products from other reps or products that are publicly available for purchase.
Property/Facility Management:
- These companies provide staff to sit at buildings who are trained in building operations. These people work for the staff augmentation company and are not employees of the company who owns the building.
Design Firms / Architectural / Building Infrastructure
- These companies are full-service engineering firms that usually specialize in architecture and building infrastructure.
- These companies may also provide design-build, meaning they offer project management/delivery to make sure that the design is built. They may not have all the resources, so they might subcontract work to contractors whether HVAC, Controls, Electrical, etc.
- These companies may also provide commissioning services or facility assessment/auditing to make sure that a job/work is in compliance/up-to-code.
CXA/Commissioning Companies
- These companies are specifically focused on commissioning/auditing work (usually construction related work) to make certain that sites are up-to-code and in compliance.
- These companies usually work alongside contractors to verify their work through QC testing and best practices. These positions tend to have a lot of travel.
SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) Energy Analytics Software Platforms
- These companies create subscription-based energy analytics software that can be used online (cloud) and usually not on-premise (desktop).
- The software can also be used for building management. The software interacts with a customer's building automation system and pulls in data points to review how the building can be energy-efficient.
- The companies offer additional services to make the building energy efficient and provide the building owner or property management company with the SaaS tool to review energy (data) usage.
Software Companies
- These companies make their own software packages that solve current industry problems
- For the most part, a lot of these companies make third-party plug-ins.
Data Center - Companies Who Own/Operate Their Own Data Centers
- These companies own their own data centers (buildings and land) versus leasing other companies server or property.
Data Center - Collocation & Hyperscale Firms
- These companies lease out data center space and data center equipment for companies who do not have their own data centers or need extra space.
- A data center itself is a facility designed efficiently to store, power, cool, and connect I.T. infrastructure.
