BAS Design Engineer – Austin, TX – Building Automation & HVAC Systems – Up to $100,000
A well-established HVAC and Building Automation organization is seeking a skilled
BAS Design Engineer to support commercial projects throughout the greater Austin area.
This role focuses on designing, documenting, and supporting building automation systems, including control
architectures, sequences of operation, and project submittals.

Role Summary:
The BAS Design Engineer will be responsible for creating control system designs, sequences of operation, and
project documentation for DDC building automation systems. This position involves close collaboration with
project managers, field technicians, and customers to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of controls projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create, design, and manage BAS system layouts and architecture using MS Visio or AutoCAD
- Develop detailed Sequences of Operations (SOO) for each project
- Review and interpret mechanical drawings, project specifications, and submittals
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve software-related issues on installed BAS and energy management systems
- Conduct occasional site visits and walk-throughs to validate designs and support project execution
- Lead and develop detailed automation data and designs to support project requirements
- Prepare and compile submittals, including control wiring diagrams, airflow and piping schematics, and equipment schedules
- Ensure controls designs are accurate, code-compliant, and delivered on time
- Support project managers and field teams with technical guidance and design clarification
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while coordinating timelines with project managers and contractors
Ideal Candidate:
- Prior experience as a BAS Controls Design Engineer or similar role
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, DDC/BAS architecture, and control strategies
- Proficiency with MS Visio and/or AutoCAD for control system design
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings
- Experience supporting or troubleshooting BAS and energy management software
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
