An established and fast-growing HVAC equipment and controls distributor is seeking a skilled Controls Specialist to support new construction and retrofit projects throughout Central and Northern California. This role involves end-to-end project ownership, from engineering and budgeting to programming, commissioning, and customer training.
This is a hands-on field and office hybrid role that requires technical precision, communication with contractors, and regular site visits. Role Overview
The Controls Specialist will be responsible for project execution, systems integration, and ongoing client support for HVAC controls systems. You’ll contribute to engineering, programming, graphic design, and technical troubleshooting on systems throughout the region—spanning Sacramento, Fresno, Redding, and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities include:
- Programming and integrating HVAC control systems (Carrier, ALC)
- Reading and interpreting architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints
- Managing contractor/subcontractor coordination and workflow
- Creating engineering submittals using MS Visio or AutoCAD
- Diagnosing HVAC mechanical issues and developing effective solutions
- Estimating and bidding on new and retrofit construction projects
- Developing and customizing BAS graphics interfaces
- Providing ongoing technical support for controls-related service issues
- Collaborating with customers and presenting project outcomes
What We’re Looking For
- Prior experience as a Controls Specialist or Controls Engineer
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems, controls sequencing, and integration protocols
- Hands-on experience in control system programming and troubleshooting
- Proficiency with MS Visio or AutoCAD for submittals and design layouts
- Willingness to travel across the Central/Northern CA region
- Strong communication and organizational skills
