Project Engineer – Grand Rapids, MI – Building Automation & Energy Integration
About the Role:
A leading Building Automation and Energy Integration firm is seeking a skilled Project Engineer to support its growing operations in the West Michigan region. In this role, you will take full ownership of projects from kickoff through closeout. The ideal candidate will bring experience in building automation systems (BAS), project coordination, and team leadership to help ensure timely and high-quality system delivery.
Position Details:
- Title: Project Engineer
- Location: Grand Rapids, MI (local travel required)
- Hourly Rate: $30.00 – $45.00/hr (based on experience)
- Overtime: Available
- Bonus: Discretionary

Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary owner of BAS controls projects through all phases
- Troubleshoot, test, and support the installation of control systems
- Collaborate with programmers, installers, and end users to ensure proper sequencing and system performance
- Coordinate manpower and internal resources to meet project milestones
- Attend progress meetings and communicate updates to project managers
- Oversee commissioning activities and ensure point-to-point checkout is completed
- Handle change orders, RFIs, and site coordination with GCs and facility owners
- Work with installation teams to ensure efficient and complete project closeout
Qualifications:
- Experience in a Project Engineer or Project Technician role (BAS or controls preferred)
- Strong understanding of HVAC controls systems and programming logic
- Experience coordinating controls installation and commissioning
- Knowledge of point-to-point checkout and system integration practices
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
