NETA Field Service Technician (II–IV) – Richmond, VA – Power Distribution & Testing
About the Opportunity
A NETA-accredited field services provider is hiring experienced
NETA Field Service Technicians (Level II, III, and IV) to perform acceptance, maintenance,
and commissioning tests on low, medium, and high voltage power distribution equipment.
This role offers competitive hourly pay with sign-on bonus, overtime eligibility, a company vehicle,
and strong benefits. Some remote flexibility is available when not on service sites.
Position Details
- Title: NETA Field Service Technician (Level II, III, or IV)
- Location: Richmond, VA / Greater DMV area (regional travel 2–4 hours)
- Travel: ~50% overall; overnight every 3 weeks (1–3 nights)
- Remote: Occasional, when not on service sites
- Vehicle: Company vehicle provided (fuel, maintenance, credit card)
- Per Diem: $70/day for travel
Compensation
- Level II: $35.00–$50.00/hr (flexible). Company-paid NETA test; +$7/hr upon advancing to Level III.
- Level III/IV: $55.00–$85.00/hr (flexible). Company-paid NETA test; +$4/hr upon advancing to Level IV.
- Sign-On Bonus (paid over time):
- Level II: $14,000 (negotiable). $3,500 at first paycheck; $3,500 at year two; remainder spread until year three.
- Level III/IV: $20,000–$35,000 (negotiable). $5,000+ at first paycheck; $5,000+ at year two; remainder spread until year three.
- Overtime: 1.5x for 8–12 hours/day; 2x for 12+ hours/day.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform NETA-standard acceptance and maintenance testing on LV/MV/HV power systems.
- Test & calibrate instrument transformers and associated equipment.
- Conduct transformer testing (e.g., TTR) and cable integrity testing.
- Provide primary and secondary injection testing for protection systems verification.
- Service, test, and maintain circuit breakers and switchgear across voltage classes.
- Perform protective relay testing and system protection verification.
- Troubleshoot, inspect, and commission electrical systems (switchgear, breakers, transformers, cables, relays, VFDs, ATS).
- Carry out field repairs, diagnostics, parts replacement, and recommissioning.
- Strictly follow safety standards and document testing and service results.
Ideal Candidate
- Experienced as a NETA Field Service Technician (Level II, III, or IV) or similar role.
- Certification: Active NETA II/III/IV preferred. NICET Power Testing considered. (Not entry-level; Level II must have proven experience.)
- Skilled with protective relays, transformers, breakers, and switchgear.
- Hands-on experience with primary/secondary injection and relay test sets.
- Strong troubleshooting ability in commercial/industrial electrical systems.
- Excellent safety practices, documentation skills, and customer communication.
