Building Automation Engineer — HVAC Controls
Urbandale, IA | Full-Time | $50,000–$120,000 / year, based on experience | Full benefits
Woodman Controls is hiring a Building Automation Engineer to work on HVAC controls projects from design through commissioning. If you know Niagara and can read a mechanical drawing, we want to talk to you.
You'll design systems, work directly with the field team, and grow into mentoring as you build experience with our platforms and processes.
- ● Help design building automation systems — control drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment schedules, and sequences of operation.
- Build and deliver software packages: graphics, validated databases, ready for the field.
- Support submittals, installation, and commissioning.
- Handle field verification on retrofit and complex jobs, resolving design questions on-site.
- Partner with Project Managers, technicians, and third-party vendors to keep integration smooth.
- Troubleshoot legacy systems and third-party integrations.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to build your skills on live projects.
- 3+ years hands-on experience in building automation / controls design and programming.
- Proficiency with Tridium Niagara (AX/N4) or a comparable BAS platform.
- Solid working knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical integration.
- Comfortable reading blueprints and specs; CAD or Visio experience for documentation.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, HVAC technology, or related field.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to job sites.
- Competitive salary ($50,000–$120,000 depending on experience) plus full health, dental, and vision coverage and retirement plan.
- Paid path to Niagara AX/N4 and GFX certifications.
- Room to grow — take on more project ownership as you build experience, not a dead-end role.
- The technology and resources you need to get the job done.
