A leading energy-efficiency and smart-building integrator is seeking a seasoned
Sr. Building Automation Specialist to support a major university campus in Washington, D.C.
You’ll bridge complex MEP design with real-world building performance—engineering custom control strategies,
optimizing mechanical systems, and delivering measurable energy, comfort, and operational results.
Position Details
- Title: Sr. Building Automation Specialist
- Location: Washington, D.C. (on-site at a major university campus)
- Salary: $100,000 – $155,000 (DOE)
- Bonus: Discretionary
- Travel: Rare; campus-based role
- Leadership: Team lead / PM experience a plus
- Parking: Campus parking provided
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site surveys and assessments of BAS and mechanical systems
- Analyze and optimize sequences of operation to improve efficiency and comfort
- Engineer, program, and implement custom BAS strategies (from scratch as needed)
- Oversee commissioning and re-commissioning to verify system performance
- Manage BAS installations; coordinate contractors, vendors, and internal teams
- Lead controls scope during bid phases and generate estimates/BOQs
- Develop RFP inputs in collaboration with construction management
- Provide training to on-site facilities staff on new control systems
- Monitor post-project performance to sustain energy savings and KPIs
- Maintain thorough documentation (submittals, as-builts, test scripts, O&M)
Ideal Candidate
- Senior-level BAS/controls experience in higher education, healthcare, or complex campuses
- Hands-on expertise with major BAS platforms (e.g., Delta, Distech, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell)
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, AHUs, VAVs) and plant optimization
- Proficiency in commissioning, functional testing, and control sequence development
- Experience coordinating field activities, schedules, and multiple stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to mentor junior staff
- Familiarity with energy-efficiency measures, M&V, and ROI-driven outcomes
