Position Title: BAS Sales Engineer
Location: Kansas City, MO Metro Area (Lee's Summit / Regional Focus)
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Additive Growth Role)
Travel Requirements: Minimal (5% or less, very rare overnights)
Confidential Company Overview
Highly agile, $60M building automation and security systems integrator. Backed by a premier global HVAC manufacturing giant, this organization couples massive financial stability and enterprise-level resources with a local, tight-knit "small company" feel. Operating with total autonomy, zero corporate Wall Street mandate pressures, and a culture built strictly around the "Golden Rule," they prioritize employee empowerment, fair pricing, and operational execution over corporate red tape.
Role Mission
We are seeking a growth-minded hunter and territory builder to expand market share across the Kansas City Metro and surrounding secondary markets. This role requires a unique balance of professional commercial sales acumen and technical literacy. You will operate with high autonomy, establishing direct owner/contractor relationships, backed completely by a deeply collaborative and long-tenured regional operations team.
Core Responsibilities
Business Development & Hunting: Proactively identify, warm-call, and secure new commercial building automation projects and service contracts across the territory.
Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain deep-seated relationships with building owners, general contractors, mechanical/electrical contractors, and MEP design firms.
Technical Project Takeoffs: Interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings to independently build accurate project scopes and parts/labor takeoffs.
Consultative Site Walks: Evaluate client facilities to identify existing legacy equipment, document physical and technical needs, and draft high-integrity retrofit proposals.
Value-Based Selling: Differentiate technical offerings through custom-engineered solutions and long-term performance value, avoiding low-price margin races.
Pipeline Tracking: Maintain highly organized documentation, accurate bidding schedules, and clean tracking within the company CRM.
Position Requirements (The Must-Haves)
Technical Literacy: Proven ability to read and analyze mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and construction drawings. Competency to perform self-directed project takeoffs is required.
Market Relevance: Established industry connections or deep familiarity with the commercial mechanical/HVAC space in the Kansas City/Missouri market.
The Hunter Mindset: High sense of urgency, personal initiative, and a proactive approach to pipeline generation. Out-of-office field presence is prioritized over desk estimating.
Aptitude & Trainability: While direct BAS/Controls experience is a major asset, candidates with strong mechanical/HVAC application knowledge who possess the logical aptitude to master modern building automation platforms will be fully trained.
Professional Standards: Exceptional interpersonal skills, strong follow-up habits, high detail orientation, and a valid driver's license with an insurable record.
Compensation & Benefits Summary
Competitive Base Salary: Commensurate with experience, plus an aggressive, uncapped monthly commission plan based on gross margins.
Day 1 Benefits: 100% company-paid healthcare premiums for Employee-Only coverage starting on your very first day.
Retirement Protection: Robust 401(k) plan with a premier company matching contribution structure.
Perks: Provided company fleet vehicle, gas card, company-issued technology package, and comprehensive life/disability insurance.
